News :
The 5th Child in the City Conference will further build on the ideas of the former events by
addressing the themes of: good practices in fighting poverty of children in Northern countries;
'assessment tools' developed by UNICEF Innocenti Research Centre, in partnership with Childwatch
International, in order to evaluate the degree of 'child friendliness' of cities and communities;
'participation' as promotion of the citizenship of children and youngsters; 'right to play' as
right to be a child, with regards to the availability of space and also time.Despite the great
number of abstracts received so far two subjects however lack behind. These topics are: • poverty
of children; as combatting poverty and social inclusion is a very important EU-theme this year•
assessment tools; the UNICEF research project on this theme will be presented at this conference,
but we intend to compare it with other cities’ experiences In order to reach a more balanced number
of contributions for each of the four topics, abstracts on the above two topics can still be
sent.Deadline: 31 March 2010
