Call for papers: International Conference on Culture and Media Education

By Susanne Klinzing

klinzing@ijab.de

Teaser :
In Germany, culture and media education takes place in many different forms and places: in youth centres, cultural centres, music and art schools, in media projects, museums and theatres. One aim of this non-school-related education is to mediate knowledge of culture and media. In addition, it provides the opportunity to positively influence the personal development of the participants.

News :
Since 2007, the University of Education Ludwigsburg has offered a Bachelor of Arts which prepares students for future careers in the field of culture and media education. From 15 to 17 July 2010, the Department of Culture and Media Education is hosting an international conference: “Culture and Media Education: An International Survey.” The conference aims to take a look at different countries and to analyse the local situation of culture and media education there. The emphasis is to be placed on cultural education and media pedagogy/education outside the school curriculum. The symposium focuses on concepts, programs, projects, institutions and professional training possibilities: What are the main concepts for culture and media education in different countries? Who are the promoters of culture and media education? Which institutions are active in the sector? Who are their target groups? Are there public bodies which deal with culture and media education? Which training possibilities are currently being offered? What importance is attached to culture and media education in society? Conference papers should provide an overview about the situation of culture and media education in a specific country. Best practice examples are also welcome; however, an overview should be included if possible. Of particular interest are papers which focus on countries in Europe (Spain or Italy especially welcome), North and South America and Southeast Asia. Papers which treat other regions are also possible, however. We would like to invite established as well as young researchers. Paper presentations should not exceed 25 minutes and can be held in one of the conference languages German or English. Please submit your abstract (300 words max.) and a brief biography by 31 MARCH 2010 to Anne Hagemann (hagemann[at]ph-ludwigsburg.de).For the intended publication, conference participants should submit their full papers (10 to 20 pages) by 15 AUGUST 2010.
